| dc.description.abstract | La técnica de biopsia del ganglio centinela se ha desarrollado de manera tal que ha logrado reemplazar la disección linfática ganglionar electiva para la evaluación de metástasis nodales regionales en pacientes con melanoma cutáneo primario. Al ser un procedimiento mínimamente invasivo, es considerado como una herramienta con gran poder pronóstico y de estadiaje dado que es el único examen diagnóstico con tanto alta sensibilidad como especificidad permitiendo detectar enfermedad nodal clínicamente negativa debajo del umbral de cualquier otra técnica no patológica.
Bajo este concepto una serie de guías terapéuticas y estudios que las respaldan se han desarrollado. En el presente trabajo se profundizará al respecto para ayudar a orientar al clínico y al cirujano a la hora de abordar este tipo de paciente.
Sentinel node biopsy technique has evolved in a way that it has managed to replace elective lymph node dissection
for the evaluation of regional nodal metastases in patients with primary cutaneous melanoma. As a minimally invasive procedure, it is considered a great staging and prognostic tool, being the only diagnostic test with both high sensitivity and specificity that allows the detection of clinically negative nodal disease below the threshold of any other non pathological technique.
Under this concept a number of therapeutic guidelines and research studies that support them have been developed. This review is intended to help guide the clinician and surgeon in the management of this type of patient. | es_ES |
